There was a couple who always quarrel and fight themselves. The husband doesn't want to send the wife packing and the wife too doesn't want to go. But daily, both of them always cry to the hearing of people that they were tired of the marriage.
They finally went to a customary court for the marriage to be dissolved. The judge observed that they have not proved beyond reasonable doubt the reason why the marriage should be dissolved.
She then decided on a trick. She gave order that two tenants who were their nearest neighbours in their compound should be quitted and replaced with a very beautiful looking spinster and a very handsome looking bachelor. This order was immediately carried out.
He then told some of the tenants in the compound to contact her immediately any day that the couple are quarrelling. One Sunday evening, the judge was called and told that the couple were quarrelling seriously. She drove down and hid herself.
Soon both of them came out with each holding a cutlass. They became afraid of each other and the wife fled into the bachelor's room while the husband fled into the spinster's room. Both of them spent the night there.
The next morning which was Monday, they went back to the court insisting that the marriage must be dissolved. The judge asked the wife why was she not worried when her husband passed the night in the room of their co-tenant who was a beautiful looking lady.
She also asked the husband why was he not worried when his wife passed the night in the room of their co-tenant who was a handsome looking bachelor.
Both of them said that they didn't bother because they were tired of living together. The judge then dissolved the marriage on the ground that the marriage has dissolved itself because any man who feels unconcerned and overlooked his wife who is inside room with another man considered her worse than excrement. Likewise a wife who does the same with her husband.
Their relationship has become like that of the cat and the rat. No Jupiter can join them together
