Augustine was the only son of his father. But after leaving Augustine's father, his mother had other children for another man.
Now being his only child, the father decided to give him the best. One day, the father brought the sum of one million naira cash to the house. When Augustine saw, the money, he asked his father he would keep such a huge amount of money safe at home.
His father told him that it is possible, after all, that was how our forefathers were keeping their money in the olden days.
One day, Augustine went to meet three of his friends and together, they arranged his kidnap.
They stormed the house one night and they blindfolded his eyes and took him away into the darkness. They later brought him back to the house. During the midnight hours, the big wall clock on the wall clocks 12:00am with its usual alarm. Now, the father was familiar with the clock's alarm as that of his.
He then told his abductors that it seems he was in his house. They told him to shut up his mouth. The next morning, his son Augustine who masterminded the kidnap mistakenly coughs. The father then recognized the sound as that of his son Augustine. He began to shout his name. They told him to either keep quiet or they would kill him.
They told him that if he failed to give them the sum of one million naira, they would kill him. And so he told them to go to his house look inside the big drum at the back of the house. They went there and collected it. They then took him to the main road in the midnight hours and they fled into the darkness.
He got home safely but he believed that his son, Augustine masterminded the whole thing. But Augustine denied his father's allegation saying, he knew nothing about. Augustine was at that time staying with a friend in another street far away from his father.
On the second day after he was released, he told Augustine that the kidnappers only destroyed his future because the one million naira was meant for his five years university education and as it stands, no more education for him.
Augustine became very sad and he went to meet his friends whom they all did the kidnap and he told that he no longer has a hand in the kidnap because the money was meant for his education and so each of them should bring his share of the money back to him.
And they said to him, "get out with your nonsense education. Were you not the one who called us in the first place? What concerns us with your stupid education. Get out from here now or we shall blow out your brains".
